Honoring the Theotokos: During August and September, we honor/venerate The Blessed Mother because of the Feast Days celebrated — the Dormition and her Birth. Help us honor her by sharing your favorite icon of the Theotokos. It can be of her image or a feast day. They will be displayed in the Church Windows. Stands will be provided if needed. Remember to put your name on the back so we know who it belongs to. Place your icon at any window you like. Labels are available on the readers lectern if you need one.
Student Food Pantry: Our parish will begin collecting food for school age children. Each month will be a different food item. For August, it will be soups, and the donations can be placed in the baskets supplied. Any questions, contact Pam Gagen.
Ladies Guild: The Ladies Guild will have their first meeting for the 2025/2026 Guild Year TODAY at 11:00am. All women are welcome to join us. We will be discussing buying new tables for the church hall as well as selling the old ones, the polka and the rummage sale.
Shoe Box Kids: Attention back to school shoppers, don't forget to buy extra school supplies for the Shoe Box Kids. The kids need school supplies, clothing, underwear, hats, gloves, toiletry items, etc. No liquid or toothpaste, please. The children arc ages 2-14. There will be a box in the vestibule for you to place your items in, which our Religious Education students will pack in distribution boxes in November as part of their social services project.
Polka Party 50/50 Tickets: Please pickup your 50/50 tickets in the vestibule. If you do not find your name, use a blank envelope from the back of the box and ask us to add you to the mailing list. Last year's winner received over $600.00! Envelopes of tickets which are not picked up will be mailed.
Summer Pool Party: We would like to invite the families of St. John's to a summer pool party on Sunday, August 10 from 12pm-? At Penn Valley Athletic Club (outdoor pool). Address is: 6135 Monroe Rd, Butler, PA 16002. We will have burgers, hotdogs and watermelon. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share! Cost for each swimmer is $5 (pay at front gate day of party). Hope to make more summer memories with all of you! Please rsvp to Amanda 724-272-2963 or Emily (724-814-9333) by August 6.
Upcoming Event Dates: 1. The Church Picnic will be held on Sunday, August 24th at Connoquenessing Park. 2. The Polka Ball will be held Saturday, September 66 at the Highfield Community Center, which is a new venue for this event.

Feast day of The Transfiguration: The Eastern Catholic tradition sees this feast as the key point in various aspects of our life.
First: All the mystery of prayer is enclosed in the Mystery of the Transfiguration. We can see that St. Luke's version of the event focuses on its relation with "Prayer": they went up "to pray" (Luke 9:28). The apostoles are adoring Jesus and want to build a dwelling for Him.
Second: any Iconographer, starts his Mission in the Church, exercising himself first on the Icon of the Transfiguration. It is with this Icon that he works on the Light. The "contemplation of Light", and "expressing it" are central in our life's Mission. Jesus is The Light of the World.
Third: from the moment when the Son of God receives a human nature in Mary's womb, His human nature is, in a way, "transfigured" by this union. He takes on him our nature; becoming our own family.
Fourth: The Apostles, by climbing the Mountain with the transformative Force of Jesus, are purified and transfigured so they are made capable of seeing Jesus as He is. Jesus is the one who changes them.
Fifth: In the Transfiguration, the Apostles contemplated the Uncreated Nature of Jesus Sixth: The Transfiguration is the fulfilment of the Promise made right before it by Jesus Himself to show to some of them the Kingdom: "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God. About eight days after Jesus said this [promise], he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.. "(Lk 9:27-29).
here is an Invitation to be transformed in Christ in order to "see Him as He is".
This is the core of "Spiritual Theology": divinization or transformation. Jesus is capable of transforming the human being, bringing the "new being" into life and into its fullness.
